Students and community members greatly benefit from this new 21st century urban high school of excellence. While the size of the building is similar to other buildings surrounding Cass Park, its mass is broken down to emphasize varied activities. The academic, public, athletic and performance spaces are all distinct pieces of Cass Tech. Additionally, the media center is prominently oriented in a way that blends with elements of both the neighboring Masonic Temple and Kresge Building. Heavy exterior masonry is lightened by large expanses of glass and metal. As a whole, the exterior materials of this leading edge institution are used to create an image of both Detroit’s industrial history and the school’s forward-looking curriculum.
