Listen first, then design. That was the process in developing this new center, a direct response to interactive visioning with both the community and the district. An intimate, smaller school setting fosters collaboration and teaming while meeting the needs of children aged 3 to 5 in an invigorating environment. Porch entry areas provide a “home away from home” first impression for all children as they arrive to school, and fulfill a program goal to allow parents the opportunity to walk their child directly into the school, then to interact with instructors. Once inside the Learning Studios, students experience an open and stimulating interior environment that is accented with color, natural light and openness. School circulation includes three major intersections for collaboration – class neighborhoods, a gross motor development center, and a dining center. Children with special needs benefit from a secure welcome center and a themed adventure playground.
