Natural light and outside views create bright, open and inspiring spaces that encourage creativity in these Science, Art and Music (SAM) prototype additions, designed for each of the district’s 26 elementary schools. The 4,500 SF spaces include three classrooms each and are outfitted with the necessary accommodations to support the changing curriculum. Each room has vaulted ceilings with exposed wood trusses, and special storage casework customizes each studio-like space to its function. Outside, the exterior of the additions feature bands of split face and smooth masonry rendered in colors complementary to the existing school buildings. Shingled, gable roofs highlight each of the classrooms and relate to neighboring homes.
