First to fourth grade students at the Detroit Country Day Lower School thrive in an innovative, flexible learning environment with imaginative themes unique to each classroom wing. Featuring bright colors, room entrances that look like cottages, cloud fixtures hanging from the ceiling, and even grass-like seating areas, the building brings the outdoors inside giving students their own world to inhabit. The feeling of community extends beyond the individual classrooms to shared learning spaces that foster the comfort of home while encouraging students to take ownership over their space. The communal media center, maker space, and tinker labs augment the classroom learning environment, offering more hands-on, interactive opportunities to work with one another daily.
