Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School

The new LEED Gold certified Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School was the first high school to be replaced with a new facility as part of a $500 million, 3-year capital improvement campaign. Situated on a 34-acre site, King High School is a high performing school with emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math.

This new 2-story,  245,412 SF modern high school was constructed on the existing site, taking advantage of its prime location and existing site amenities. The existing auditorium was incorporated into the new facility. Sustainable design strategies resulted in lower operational costs and enhanced learning environments.

Within the school, a tribute to Dr. King, the “Martin Luther King, Jr. Center,” is used as a large group lecture venue and as an informal gathering space. The new building is divided into four smaller learning communities. Other features include a Cyber Cafe, Media Center overlooking the MLK Center, a Gymnasium with spectator seating for 1,200, an 8-lane Competition Pool and a Community Health Center.
