All 600 students at this high school enjoy controlled natural light in all instructional spaces. The school is situated on a 12-acre urban site and houses an 800-seat auditorium, 2,000-seat competition gym, weight/fitness area and a six-lane natatorium. The building’s main entrance is emphasized by a circular clerestory. Additional clerestory windows at the academic wing and the media center, as well as the translucent panels at the classrooms, are intended to softly glow at night, symbolizing the lantern of knowledge. The Commons area serves as an informal gathering place for the student body as well as for dining. The building also serves the community as a whole with the athletic and performing arts areas designed to allow for community use after school.
